Perfect Hair for Any Affair

How you are going to style your hair for your wedding can depend on many factors—the time of year you’re getting married, your veil, and the cut of your wedding dress (to name a few). We also like to look at the location of a wedding to help determine the hairstyle best suited for the day. Here are a few of the most popular places to say “I do” and our favorite wedding hairstyles for each venue.

Beach

Wind and salty air can do a number on hair, which is why we recommend embracing the elements rather than fighting against them. If you choose to wear hair down or in a half-up style, go with loose waves opposed to stick-straight strands or tight curls. Unless your hair is extremely obedient (lucky you!) you will probably end up with waves regardless. Source inspiration from wedding hairstyles that describe the look as “beach waves.” This style will hold up against humidity and is usually created with the use of a salon-quality salt spray that helps create that perfect effortless texture.

Backyard

Whether at the home of a loved one or a rented space, backyard weddings are another example of an outdoor setting where hair requires a little extra attention. However, unless you are wedding somewhere humid or very warm, you can worry less about frizz and flyaways and focus more on a wedding hairstyle that speaks to your theme. For quaint, backyard weddings we favor sweet southern curls, either pinned back in a sweeping style or tucked away in an updo. You can also incorporate braids or take note from the natural setting and finish with a floral crown. Both of these options will not only keep hair under control but also look incredibly romantic.

Hotel

If your ceremony is being held at a hotel, you and your wedding are likely a bit more contemporary. Choose a modern and fashion forward hairstyle that complements the setting and your wedding dress. One of our personal favorites is an undone updo, which could mean free ends or twisted knots, and is a less formal option. The red carpets of award shows are a great place to see some of the year’s most popular looks and can serve as inspiration when discussing ideas with your hairstylist. If awards season has passed, search online for recent movie premieres, which take place yearlong and are another event where celebs’ hair will be styled in the latest trends.

Church or Temple

If you’re holding your wedding ceremony in a religious setting, a classic hairstyle is the best choice. For a traditional wedding hairstyle, think about an updo with a sculpted side part. This time-honored look dates back to the 1920s but continues to be a favorite for some of Hollywood’s most glamorous ladies. Another popular wedding hairstyle that is perfect hair for a conventional ceremony is a low bun. A timeless style that is both sleek and sophisticated, and will work nicely with your veil.
