I may be a little late to the show, but my goodness I love a new wedding trend! I am officially obsessed with the new “naked cake” trend and I just have to show you what its all about! From rustic, to chic, a vintage wedding to a beach wedding, and even an elegant wedding, these cakes are leaving their mark! As some of you may already know (yes, I am late to this party!) naked cakes are plain layered cakes without cream frosting or the traditional fondant. You can see the entire center and filling of the cake, which just has me drooling while typing this! I love this for the bride that likes to be non-traditional but not lack any aw struck beauty on their dessert table and for the bride that just wants to make a statement…..check out these naked wedding cakes!
I am seeing so many of the naked cakes with similar width in the cake and layering, I love how this is different in the way that the layering is quite thin! This is so chic and vintage with single white flower and the lace wrap…. I just love the look!

Flowers are such an important a beautiful part of a wedding, and they are nothing short of that on all these naked wedding cake designs. I love the cascading rose idea, just one way to dress up the cake. The cake ideas below, also show that naked cakes are beautiful with chocolate, vanilla or any kind of cake you choose! I just love all these ideas, and I know they are sure to make you forget that cakes are even supposed to be covered in frosting!

Fruit and candy also can be a fondant haters best friend, when it comes to these cakes! The beauty definitely comes from the simplicity of these cakes. Just a few pieces of fruit, or a few flowers make this trend all the rage!

Don’t let the simplicity of the look and design fool you, these cakes can often be hard to make, because of their bare nature they must be perfect to the eye, there is no hiding behind fondant for these beauties. The traditional fondant and butter cream frosting also helps make and keep a wedding cake moist and soft, so it is also a challenge for the baker to make a naked cake that still taste moist! So although frosting has a lot of intricate detail, these cakes are still a lot of work and aren’t always a ton cheaper. I love that the word “naked” doesn’t have to mean lacking any detail and flair! These cakes can have so many different shapes and details, you can do a mix of frosted and naked, and you can add even more flavor by adding a drizzle of caramel or chocolate!
