The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Jewelry

By February 22, 2014 Fashion + Beauty No Comments

You have the dress. You have the shoes. Your groom has his incredibly sexy tux. The only thing you’re missing is the wedding jewelry. These accessories can be difficult to navigate. You don’t want to have too much jewelry on that distracts from the ring or your beauty. You also don’t want to skip jewelry altogether and make your wedding day ensemble look incomplete. Not to worry, this guide will make sure you don’t miss that vital piece of jewelry while protecting you from going overboard.

First up is the most important piece of jewelry- the wedding bands. You will need to go shopping for wedding bands for both you and your soon-to-be husband. When it comes to your band, first look in the store where your fiance bought your engagement ring. They may have a wedding band that matches perfectly with the setting.

If you don’t like what the jewelry store has to match, you can go rogue. Depending on the style of your ring, you can get a band that contrasts just enough to stand out without ruining the beauty of your engagement ring. A good trick is to put the band on with your engagement ring and see if it would look good as one ring, since most brides get their rings soldered together.

For your fiance’s wedding band, you can either have it match your ring in terms of metal and style, or let him go rogue as well. Men’s rings do not necessarily need to match yours. There are many really cool wedding bands for men that are made of tough and beautiful metals. This includes tungsten, chrome, titanium, or platinum.

What earrings you choose to wear depends on the hairstyle you want for your wedding. If you are going to have all of your hair pulled up, then embellished studs are a beautiful option. When your hair is half up, you could get away with studs, but they may be hidden at times. It is better if you choose some dangle earrings instead. Dangle earrings also work great in styles where the hair is completely down.

Which necklace you choose to wear depends on the bodice of the dress. If you have a see-through fabric top, then no necklace is needed. If you have thicker over the shoulder straps, bell cap sleeves, or long sleeves, you need a short chain necklace with a small pendant. If you are choosing strapless, then a slightly longer necklace with a medium sized pendant would work well. Rarely do long necklaces work with wedding dresses. If your bodice has a lot of bead work or embellishments, you may not need a necklace.

Bracelets go well for any kind of dress. The general rule is to only wear bracelets on your right wrist so as not to distract from your ring (which everyone will ask to see). Nearly every kind of bracelet will work great with your dress, from thin chains to chunkier slip-ons. It depends on your personal style.
